Café du Cycliste's Cosette Base Layer elicited gasps of delight from the team when it first arrived. No, it really did! We've rarely come across a more covetable piece or one that blends technical qualities with that indefinable je ne sais quoi that a really cosy, well fitting base layer can create.

As a dual fabric base layer, the Café du Cycliste offers an unbeatable combination of insulation and breathability, giving with maximum performance in cooler conditions. Its merino rich micro-fibre blend fabric has flat locked seams to prevent chafing, and is exceptionally soft against the skin, whilst the deliberately female styling is cut to a snug race fit. The front panel creates a warm layer of air to improve thermal insulation and the state-of-the-art 'bio-ceramic' (we didn't know either!) technology means that heat absorbed by the fabric itself can be returned to your body. The fibre blend on the the back and arms is designed to provide exceptional wicking and moisture transfer.

Wear the Cosette under a jersey or a jacket, or both - or just let it speak for itself and wear it on its own!

Size Guide

Café du Cycliste's sizing is generally pretty realistic. As with many European makes, if you're torn between two sizes you should err towards the larger of the two. Bear in mind that the Cosette is 'slim cut', so is cut for a trim fit on the bike, but one that allows for reasonable movement off it.

Who's Behind It?

André a former Ironman and Rémi a former canoeing World Champion are the founding duo behind Café du Cycliste. The pair started out opening a dreamy cycling community cafe in the Cote D’Azur, Nice and haven’t moved from that location since.

Soon after, André and Rémi launched what they deliberately describe as an ‘alternative cycling wear brand’. The essence of Café du Cycliste is to avoid the unsophisticated and garish. They combine the finest materials and latest technology with a retro twist, allowing you to perform to your best but look elegant and stylish in doing so.

Development, patterning, designing and testing all still take place on the inspirational Cote D’Azur, with only the actual manufacturing outsourced. We simply love their approach to both work and play, and their products consistently rank amongst the most sought after of any we stock.

  1. Snap this up!

Review by Fitnesspro (Posted on October 11, 2016)

Snug fit. Draught free. Well made. Will stand the test of chilly days and regular use. Good for outdoor instructors.

  2. nice, but quite a bit more expensive than alternatives - if you are looking for cycling gear. Great as a normal top.

Review by lucylucy (Posted on December 08, 2015)

it's a great top, would have loved some other colour alternative. I was suprised to find that there is much less merino in this than it had suggested - hence my saying it's too expensive. Agree with previous reviewer that this can be worn as a normal winter top.

VeloVixen Says: glad to hear you've liked the Cosette! We're also quietly hoping there are a few more colour options, as it is nice enough to wear on its own. Out of interest, where did you find the merino proportion confusion? We'd love to clear this up - we've put in 'Geek's Corner' that it's 49% merino, but if there's a conflicting figure lurking elsewhere do let us know... x

  3. Beautiful material, fits perfectly.

Review by Munqechick (Posted on November 03, 2015)

This item is exactly as Velo Vixen have described! The material is beautifully soft and it fits perfectly (true to size). Love the cut of the neck. I have decided though it is too nice to be worn as a base layer and is a now a normal winter LS top! LOVE IT!
