“Basil have put a twist on the traditional pannier with the Elements Shoulder bag. It’s a fantastic over-sized handbag for carrying around my usual daily essentials, a stylish everyday handbag for casual use.” - Velo City Girl
You'd just never guess this is a bike bag. Equally in its element on your bike or on your arm swanning into a glitzy boutique, it's the ultimate combination of bike gear and your other life away from your bike. The hanging hooks that fasten it securely to your bike rack are subtly concealed in a small zipper compartment, and once zipped up the bag transforms into an elegant yet cavernous shoulder bag.
The material is water-repellant recycled canvas, and the handles and details are weatherproof artificial leather. Inside, the innerlining is soft and sophisticated and includes a zipped pocket. Frankly, you hardly even need to be a cyclist to justify this one.
- Exterior: water-repellant recycled canvas and artificial leather
- Interior: patterned polyester with zipped pocket
- Attachment: hanging hooks, concealed within zipped compartment
- Capacity: 17 litres
Dutch cycling brand BASIL originated in the 1970s, when former owner Nico van Balveren - who at the time was a bicycle retailer - started producing a variety of bicycle baskets. A number of successful years later, the name of the company was updated to BASIL, a contraction of Nico’s name ‘van Balveren’ and ‘Silvolde’ the town where it all began.
In 2001 BASIL was passed down the family to Marthijn, Nico’s son, who continues to run the thriving company today from its base in Holland. Sold in over 17 countries, BASIL remains a popular brand, thanks to their unwavering commitment to their core values: reliability, innovation and contemporary style. They continue to produce imaginative, beautiful kit for... well, civilised cycling. Even Dutch royalty love BASIL, with Princess Amalia sporting one of their bicycle panniers.
