A year ago, we launched our first VeloVixen Next Top Model competition. Elle Linton (above), the personal trainer and blogger, won it thanks to her distinctive and striking looks, positive energy, experience on a bike and... frankly, just brilliant hair! You'll have seen her featuring in our blogs, tweets, posts, newsletters and catalogues ever since.

We had such a great response to the competition - and such great photos of Elle - that we're doing it again. Shouldn't you be entering (by August 23rd)...?! ** Click below to see who won this time! **

Behind every great cycling club there is a great woman…or so the saying goes (sort of!). We spoke to Cheryl Reid, the brains and larger-than-life personality behind Oxford's hugely successful Cowley Road Condors Ladies Summer Sessions, a summer-long series of rides designed to introduce novice female riders to the joy of cycle club riding.

Every so often a cycling opportunity comes up that's just too good not to shout about. 1st-5th October 2015 is one such. How do you fancy an extended stay in some of Europe's finest cycling country? A stunning base camp in Catalunya's Girona Province? Eye-watering scenery and roads? Wonderful local food? To say nothing of your fellow riders - which include British Olympians Sharon Laws and Lucy Martin, who'll be showing you some of their favourite 'home' roads.

Surely this is the chance to escape the impending Autumn blues?

6 Jackets for Autumn Riding

Posted in Style Guides By VeloVixen

Let's face it, 2015 is only going one way from here. Whatever traces of 'summer' we had, we now have to accept begrudgingly, are now probably over. Autumn is here. Along with damper air, juicy blackberries, conkers, the early falling leaves. Oh, and The X-Factor.

At VeloVixen, we always take the approach that bad weather is in the mind. And in the kit. We have an especially great selection of jackets to get you through this Autumn and Winter in real style and comfort. Here are our top picks...

What Shone at the Show?

Posted in Clubs & Events By Phil Bingham

Did you make it to the Cycle Show? It was our first time exhibiting at Birmingham's NEC, and - it's fair to say - it was quite a show. We deliberately plonked ourselves in a prime spot, right by one of the main entrances and quickly became a focus for the thousands of female cyclists who sacrificed a sunny ride to come and hang out at the show!

But which products went down best? Here are our Top 9 (quirky, huh?!)...

(... and did you win a pair of ZIB cycling pants?!)

We've loved Morvelo's bib shorts for years. But it's always nice when a reviewing source we respect feels the same way...

'These are among the most comfortable bib shorts I've ever worn... The pad is superbly comfortable... Handmade from plush performance fabrics, these look the business. A well engineered short and spot on for its purpose... Performed exceptionally well.'

Quality of construction: 10/10 - 'very well made from superb quality Italian fabrics and components.'
Performance: 9/10 - 'extremely comfortable for all sorts of riding and distances and very effective.'

VeloVixen photo shoots have always been fun, and the results - we're reliably assured - have always brought a certain extra something to women's cycling. But we weren't sure what to expect this time when we brought together three of customers as models... here's our behind-the-scenes film of how the afternoon panned out. And in. And across.

The problem with running a show like VeloVixen is that you end up liking everything. That's the thing about a 'hand-picked' range.

So when we're put in a half-Nelson and asked to say what from our range we'd most like to get for Christmas, it's not easy. It's caused consternation, deliberation and procrastination amongst the team. But we've squeezed an answer out of everyone... actually, we buckled and allowed everyone two picks... even the boys!

Best Blogs of 2015

Posted in By VeloVixen

2015 was the year our blog came of age. We now get so many regular visitors that we've had to increase what our site can handle more than once this year!

And with good reason - with big name regular guest bloggers like Adele Mitchell, Juliet Elliott, Lara Dunn and Cathy Bussey, plus VeloVixen's unique insight into women's cycling kit, it's a recipe for a good read. Here are the blogs that have created the most stir in 2015...

Let’s face it: this time of year isn’t exactly peak season for cycling.

It’s cold. It’s wet. It’s dank. Daylight hours are almost non-existent. And frequently there’s ice on the ground. To say nothing of that residual Christmas pudding clogging up both arteries and will-power.

It’s hardly a recipe for joyful times on your bike. Or is it?

Our Big Plans for the Summer... and Beyond

Posted in By Liz & Phil Bingham

It's that time of year, isn't it? Yes, people are still wearing down jackets and anyone in their right mind on a bike is still layering up. But there's the scent of summer promised in the air. Buds are surreptitiously appearing on trees. The daffodils are strutting their stuff more confidently than those cheeky ones that popped up in January. You can even catch an occasional waft of cut grass as you ride.

We're feeling especially perky at VeloVixen.

Why's that, you ask? We have plans... and big news. And they're likely to have repercussions for women's cycling beyond VeloVixen itself. Here's what lies ahead for the months to come (it's worth reading to the end with this one...).

VeloVixen: the Next Chapter Begins

Posted in By Liz & Phil Bingham

We're delighted to announce that, for the first time since we launched in August 2012, we have agreed a deal to bring in external investment. On March 21st, Bath-based Chelverton Asset Management, through a syndicate of private investors, agreed to invest £500,000 of growth capital into VeloVixen.

We're delighted to announce that VeloVixen is to sponsor a major men's UCI cycling team for the remainder of this season. After examining a number of ways to maximise the impact of our recent investment, we have decided to expand our reach by putting the VeloVixen name to an established men's squad.

We are unable to reveal either the names of the riders involved or the event calendar for the new team before later this month, but rest assured the new VeloVixen team will be looking to compete with the very best.

For most professional sports people, retirement can be a thorny issue. When do you do it and - far more troubling - what do you do once you've hung up your boots/skis/cleats/racket (delete as appropriate)? Surely the only way is down?

So just imagine if you're Britain's most decorated Olympian and a household name. How do you top that?

You design cycling kit, of course.

In April, we spent three memorable days in Bristol shooting for our next catalogue. The sun shone on us - in every sense - and we laughed a lot. We hope you get the idea from our behind-the-scenes video...
