£85.00

Why to buy: You won't leave the house without it. Lightweight, windproof and water repellent, everything you need in a gilet while remaining incredibly stylish to boot.

"Its grey plaid check and subtle pink detailing take it a notch above other gilets which tend to emphasise purpose over style. But the Madeleine sacrifices nothing on the technical side... a win, 4.5/5" road.cc

Details

The Madeleine Gilet covers so many situations, you'll never want to be caught without it.  Wear it over other layers to cut out the chill of the morning before the day warms up; throw it on for a descent to avoid cooling down too fast; or wear it stylishly on your commute to keep you at just the right temperature. Weighing just 100g, it's windproof and water repellant, scrunches quickly into your back pocket and is cut deliberately snug to avoid too much flapping at speed.

Its grey plaid check and subtle pink detailing take it a notch above other gilets, which tend to emphasise purpose over style. But the Madeleine sacrifices nothing on the technical side, with its mesh insert within the back providing an easy exit for excess heat, and cleverly designed openings allowing you to reach inside to your jersey pockets. Even at night, its generous yet unobtrusive reflective details give you an edge.

Ideal for:

  • On or off the bike.
  • When you don't want the bulk of a full jacket.
  • Completing your cycle chic.

"The Café du Cycliste Madeleine Gilet lives up to its marketing as it has many uses from keeping off the morning chill to allowing effective layering when climbing and descending, all with a subtle French je ne sais quoi. Very good windproofing for something so light. And not garish at all. Win." - road.cc

Size Guide

Café du Cycliste's sizing is generally pretty realistic. As with many European makes, if you're torn between two sizes err towards the larger of the two. Bear in mind that most of their products are cut more for comfort than for out and out skin hugging, so this can help counteract any 'undersizing'.

Who's Behind It?

André a former Ironman and Rémi a former canoeing World Champion are the founding duo behind Café du Cycliste. The pair started out opening a dreamy cycling community cafe in the Cote D’Azur, Nice and haven’t moved from that location since.

Soon after, André and Rémi launched what they deliberately describe as an ‘alternative cycling wear brand’. The essence of Café du Cycliste is to avoid the unsophisticated and garish. They combine the finest materials and latest technology with a retro twist, allowing you to perform to your best but look elegant and stylish in doing so.

Development, patterning, designing and testing all still take place on the inspirational Cote D’Azur, with only the actual manufacturing outsourced. We simply love their approach to both work and play, and their products consistently rank amongst the most sought after of any we stock.

  1. Lovely gilet and such a classy print

Review by Two wheels (Posted on November 10, 2015)

Having already purchased items from this company I thought I would purchase this gilet. Very impressed so far. Fit was as per the recent short sleeve jersey, so perfect fit but note with this make I have gone up a size than I would normally purchase.
The delicate print is very fetching and the fact you can get to your jersey pockets from the open middle in the back I liked rather than pushing it up at the back hem as usual.
The neck is quite high and very snug but so far we have not had cold enough weather for me to prove this really is snug and warm!
The zip is really easy to unzip and zip with one hand on the move-which is a big plus :-)
The armholes are not restrictive so basically faultless....but it!!!

VeloVixen Says: whoopee! So pleased you like it as much as us. The Café du Cycliste feels like it's rapidly becoming a classic. Good point about the sizing - if in doubt with C du C, go for the larger of the two sizes.

  2. Glamorous gilet

Review by Mary (Posted on June 17, 2015)

This gilet is absolutely gorgeous - the photo doesn't really do it justice. Unfortunately, it was too tight across my bust so had to be returned.
