Details

Polaris' Aqualite Extreme ladies cycling jacket is an ideal value solution for cyclists of all abilities and styles. From a practical perspective, it's lightweight and fully waterproof with taped seams throughout to keep the rain out even on longer rides. A full length front zip, including a storm flap and a chest pocket with a handy media port are just some of its cleverly conceived cycling features.

But it's the styling that makes the Polaris Aqualite Extreme Jacket stand out: the duck egg blue is strong and visible, yet feminine - as you'd expect from a female design team. The female-specific cut is fully adjustable for a perfect fit, and offers elasticated cuffs and a drawcord hem and collar. Plus, it's truly lightweight, meaning you can tuck it away for any ride in case the weather turns.

Who's Behind It?

Polaris are a UK based company that have been producing technical cycling clothing for over 20 years now. Under the watchful eye of founder Roger Dillon, they started off developing kit for mountain bikers in the '90s. With oodles of experience, Roger committed to diversifying into all areas of cycling and Polaris now has successful road, urban and trail ranges.

From their humble base in Derbyshire, Polaris has developed into a truly international brand, with their kit worn by cyclists worldwide. What makes Polaris stand out for VeloVixen is that we feel their design team truly understand the needs of female cyclists in terms of fit, function and design.

Chantelle Matthews, head designer and keen mountain biker, has developed the Polaris women's range in collaboration with a predominantly female design team. They take into account all of the different shapes and sizes, and work hard to ensure a considerate fit and contoured design, so every individual wearing Polaris gear looks and feels comfortable in the saddle.

  1. Keeps you dry on outside but keeps you wet inside!!

    Review by lgrewcock

I was very disappointed when I used this jacket whilst cycling the Yorkshire Wolds as it just isn't breathable!! If you have to exert any energy whilst cycling wearing this, you end up with the inner layers soaking. So uncomfortable. A complete waste of money. I cannot understand why any cycling/sports specialist would produce a jacket that is completely non breathable unless you wear it open all the time!

VeloVixen Says: Louise - sorry you didn't appreciate that the Aqualite isn't breathable. Its great benefit is its waterproofing, and for £50 it does an exceptional job at this. For it to be effectively breathable as well, the materials involved mean price would almost inevitably be 3 times higher or more. The reason that so many cycling/sports specialists go for jackets like this is to keep them protected from heavy rain and then tuck away after the rain, but not generally to wear for long distances on big rides for the reason you've encountered. We've reread the product wording and are double checking to make sure it's not misleading about breathability, but apologies again if this didn't come across clearly.

  2. Perfect fit, great styling and colour

    Review by Wotton Rider

I'm a size 14, tall and unfortunately not flat chested so finding a top to fit is difficult, either too short or too tight on the chest or if the chest fits gaping on the body and arms.

Perfect fit, long enough in both arms and body, toggles to tighten the bottom made it snug and stopped the chill getting in, snug fit meant no riding up over my hips. Cuffs are tapered nicely and not too tights. Nice flat fit around the neck, the media pocket on the left front is a nice touch and really useful.

Was good in light rain and kept me dry.

Really keen price too. I would definitely buy this again, and will look out for more items from this brand.
