Primal Verona Wind Vest

Why to Buy: Tuck-away practicality to keep the wind out at a purse-friendly price

Primal's Verona Wind Vest is the perfect addition to your kit for those unpredictable weather days. In the UK we have a few of those.

The vest is light to wear, and conveniently rolls into a small package to tuck into your bag when the weather improves and you're no longer in the chilly wind, or a short shower - the polyester fabric has been developed to repel light rainfall, too. Even if you keep it on, the Wind Vest will protect you without overheating.

Primal's team of female designers have worked hard to get the fit of the Vest just right. No extraneous fabric around the middle, only a stealth-like closeness to the body. Ninja-esque? You tell us. A TKK two-way zipper allows versatile wearing and ventilation and a microfleece collar will keep your neck snug. Elegant, practical and it does the job.

Who's Behind It?

Primal was founded in 1992 by 'real' cyclists. It's an ethos they maintain today: every employee must be a passionate and positive cyclist - but not necessarily a hugely talented one! Their primary aim is to create clothes for cyclists that not only work perfectly, but also look unique, beautiful and full of character.

Their design department is famous in the cycling world, constantly creating ambitious new looks but never allowing style to overwhelm substance. Whilst they are amongst the biggest cycling clothing companies in the world, they stand out by remaining human, approachable and flexible. They go out of their way to avoid becoming a corporate behemoth focused on 'peddling not pedalling'. It's a great approach.

Their Global Headquarters is in Denver, Colorado (lucky them!), but they have been growing within Europe for several years now, and their UK team is fully focused on what is a new market for them. We are hoping to grow with them.

  1. A good value gilet

    Review by Mary

I bought this to go with the Vulpine merino jersey for my first sportive and haven't stopped wearing it since. Unlike the Café du Cycliste gilet, this one has a bit more give in the bust area and seems more purposeful (if less glamorous). The only thing I would change about it is the fact that the reflective strip is hidden when the zip is done up (although the zip opens two-ways). Also, having something reflective on the back would've been nice. However, the pockets are generous and although they don't zip up, nothing has ever fallen out. It's the sort of item you could wear walking the dog or mountain biking if not on your road bike.
