Assos has long been a brand synonymous with luxurious, quality cycle clothing and their UMA women’s range is no different. Created with feedback from their female employees the UMA GT half shorts are a new entry-level style for Assos.

Gone is the Italian racing fit, instead replaced with a more relaxed, comfortable styling courtesy of their female-tuned regularFit. Combined with a unique chamois pad that’s been cut narrower at the front to prevent bunching, the UMA shorts offer exceptional comfort and fit all round.

With a shorter than average leg-length these shorts are best worn during warm riding conditions, including summer rides, sprightly commutes or spinning lessons when you really want to get your legs pumping.

Assos understand that shorts are the hardest working piece of cycling kit. They utilise technologies they have developed over the years to create top notch shorts that allow you to ride in ultimate comfort.

The UMA GT shorts are made from the company’s own Type.439 Lycra that is the perfect combination of soft and silky yet supportive and durable. You will feel as though you’re dressed in silk but confident that the shorts are durable enough to withstand both miles in the saddle and machine washing.

Assos have invested a lot of time and energy into the cushioning between you and your saddle. The memory foam pad is 8mm-thick with a dimpled waffle construction to aid breathability and comfort. A narrow nose on the pad makes sure you’re not sat on too much bulk up front, giving you the most comfortable ride possible.

The finishing touches make the chamois a real winner. Unlike other pads, the UMA GT’s insert is only attached at the front and rear of the shorts, leaving the midsection free to move independently. Less stitching means potentially less chafing in a rather delicate area.

Fit is also high up on Assos’ agenda. They’ve double layered the waistband and leg hem, offering support that’s unrestrictive. It also means that the legs of the shorts don’t ride up and the waistband doesn't fold over, it stays firmly flat.

All is rounded off with the shorts being given an anti-bacterial treatment to keep you nice and fresh.

Assos Size Guide

Assos is towards the 'race' end of cycling clothing - it is created with hard riding in mind and is therefore primarily designed with a snug, aerodynamic fit.

When you get the fit right, it is fabulous. Assos themselves describe it as having 'a very slimming, anatomical cut' and diplomatically suggest that 'if your build is less than slim or if you like your fit looser, go up in size'!

If you are still unsure, feel free to contact us.

For many years now, ASSOS of Switzerland has been one of the most respected names in cycling. The only catch, from a female cycling perspective, was their notoriously... how would you say?... 'traditional' approach to marketing their women's kit.

But in 2016, everything changed. As they say themselves, it went 'from bad to badass'.

Gone was the risqué photography, in came strong imagery of strong women doing serious cycling. Their imagery and ethos now matches the exceptional quality of their clothing. It does justice to their 40 years of cycling experience and their true passion and expertise in what they produce.

As they sponsor their first women's pro team in 2018, Cyclance Pro Cycling, we have nothing but respect for how they have turned things around for female cyclists.

How did it start? In 1976, ASSOS was founded by Toni Maier with the first carbon fiber bicycle frame. Toni spent painstaking time testing the bike in the wind tunnel, but it eventually dawned on him that it was the riders' clothing that was the main cause of drag.

Toni naturally then turned his attention to kit - and promptly invented the first Lycra® cycling shorts. It's their bottom halves that they are still most recognised for. Fast forward to today, and ASSOS have now contributed to over 350 gold medals at world championships and Olympic games.

ASSOS works as hard as any brand we know with its suppliers and test team to produce fabrics and fits that make it - in our view - the Rolls Royce of cycling kit. They've been at the vanguard of many of the really big innovations that have shaped the evolution of cycling, including the first sublimation of a cycling jersey in 1980, the first elastic interface cycling short insert in 2001 and the 'fastest bodysuit on earth' in 2004.

Today, ASSOS has multiple sponsorships of World Tour teams and riders. It's a brand for the purist - for passionate cyclists who appreciate the very best. We're delighted to have them as part of the VeloVixen stable of great brands.
