Details

Castelli may call the Alpha Ros W Light Jacket 'light', but the range of conditions that it thrives in is remarkable. In truth some people think of it as an ultra-adaptable long sleeve jersey. It will keep you comfortable in temperatures where you might normally dig out your full weight jacket, and yet the exceptional breathability ensures it's still ideal on days when you might otherwise have worn arm warmers and a gilet in the past. AND it keeps you dry.

RoS stands for 'Rain or Shine'. What does it mean? Well, for a start it's a label that only Castelli's most technically advanced products are awarded. And every RoS product must excel both in the dry or the wet. In the dry, that means serious comfort and real breathability to avoid perspiration making you cold and damp. And in the wet, it will keep you warm and dry whilst still letting the heat and sweat out efficiently.

The Alpha RoS W Light Jacket fits the bill comfortably on both fronts. The material used offers cutting edge rain protection, and Castelli have managed to reduce seaming and sealed the seams where sensible for keeping the wet out in all conditions barring prolonged monsoons!

According to Castelli, this is 'functional waterproofing' - it's essentially the best possible balance that they can achieve between water repellency and breathability. And in our experience of the Alpha Ros Light, that's a pretty spectacular achievement.

Castelli Size Guide

Note: where Castelli once had a reputation for making gear that suited only very small Italian people, the Castelli women's size scale is now very similar to 'normal' UK sizing.

Who's Behind It?

Q. What do a 19th century Italian tailor, a designer for the Milan Ballet and the first ever lycra cycling shorts have in common?

A. They are all part of a rich 140 year history that's led to today's most recognised brand in cycling: Castelli.

Throw in a heart attack on a famous Italian climb, family feuds, Olympic gold medals and controversy in the pro peloton and it begins to sound more like a Sicilian soap opera than the backdrop to a cycling brand. But then again Castelli is no ordinary brand.

Today, Castelli's scorpion emblem is arguably the single most recognised in cycling. Iconic is an overused word these days, but the Castelli brand surely qualifies.

We first discovered Castelli on our year long ride through the Americas in 2010, when our founder Liz (pictured) wore Castelli shorts and loved them, so stocking them seemed an obvious choice. But we're almost as captivated by the story behind the name as the kit itself!
